Can anyone truly answer the age-old question: "How can I concentrate better?" No, because each person is different. However, science has been able to give us some pretty good hints and hacks to make it easier. Maybe some of these will work for you!
Don't mistake activity for achievement. ~John Allen
- Be smart with your time. Well, okay, fabulous in theory, but how would one go about doing that? Several ways. First, try making yourself a daily schedule and use your watch (on your wrist, not your phone. nice try though) to keep track of that time, or use a timer if you'd rather do that. Another way to effectively manage your time is by using the bite-sized-chunk method. I'm sure you've heard of it. This works especially well with projects that aren't needing to be done for several days/weeks. It's pretty self explanatory, but if you really need further explanation, here's what my sister always says: "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."
- Ask yourself: "Does this really need to be done?" or are you just filling time with things that CAN be done just so you can put off things that SHOULD be done? (again, shameful, but human)
- Exercise, diet, sleep. Properly! (emphasis on the properly part..) It really isn't as hard as people make it out to be, so stop whining and go eat a salad, drink some water, and get regular sleep! It's no wonder productivity is so low these days. I went to a buffet dinner with a friend recently and he looked at my salad and healthy food choices like they were a new invention, and I did the same to his deep fried mess, except with more disgust. And how about exercise, even for just ten minutes a day. Ten minutes! It's not very long, and you feel great! And stretching once in a while while working really helps clear your mind of fogginess and gets blood flowing better.
- Last but not least: Peppermint. (say what?) Yes, peppermint. It is extremely helpful with waking up your brain and senses. Peppermint oil can be rubbed behind the ears or your temples (just don't put it in water. You'll want to hurl all day) or even a peppermint candle is fabulous. Too lazy to buy peppermint oil? Fine. Buy some hard candy peppermints, or mint gum.
