Thanks! And stay weird!
Hey y'all, I just wanted to let everyone know that I am no longer looking for a critique partner. I know my post on Susan Dennard's blog is still up, and I continue to receive occasional emails regarding it, but as I am unable to delete my post I will have to hope that some of you will see this before trying to contact me.
Thanks! And stay weird!
Q: You mentioned your first novel attempt in your May 2015 newsletter, and also mentioned that you scrapped it. Do you remember anything about that un-published book and can you tell us anything about it?
A: My first novel was a chick lit. Yep. So different from what I write now (but a genre I love to read). I thought it would be "easy" because of the "lighter fare." I was WAY wrong. Good chick lit is deep and complex without the reader even realizing it, and I was NOT a skilled enough writer to pull that off yet!
Q: What makes fantasy your genre of choice? And why is steampunk so intriguing to you?
A: I love all genres and read really widely, but when I was a teen/preteen, I almost ONLY read fantasy. After my failed chick lit attempt, I realized I should go back to the books that first made ME want to write (Lloyd Alexander, Tamora Pierce) and try to write for a similar audience. Those stories have stuck with me more strongly than any others in my life, and I realized I wanted to have a similar impact on young readers.
Q: Do you remember when your books started to get attention? What was it like starting out?
A: Um, are they getting attention? HA! I feel like it's hard to know how well a book is doing if you aren't one of the super huge bestsellers. I have fan mail (which is the highlight of my life) and I interact with readers online, but for the most part, I feel like my books are still very quiet. And that's not a bad thing! The few fans I do have are INCREDIBLE and I've really been able to forge a one-on-one connection with them.
And last but not least...
Q: If cookies were destroyed and vanished completely from the face of the earth (and you couldn't make them yourself) what would you do??
A: I would shed a thousand tears!! And then start eating cake. ;)
HUGE thanks to Susan for taking the time out of her busy schedule to do this for us! It was certainly a blessing, and we hope that Truthwitch sells like hotcakes! (I've already got mine pre-ordered!)
Thanks, Sooz! Stay Strange and Ever After!
Get the entire Something Strange & Deadly series, now available from HarperTeen! Look for Truthwitch, coming January 5, 2016 from Tor!
Above are a few images of our dog, Kaycee. Contraire and I were bored out of our minds one day and decided to dye him using food coloring. What was once a black and white papillon is now a pink, blue, purple and black pooch! We had a ton of fun and I definitely recommend dying your white dogs (just don't do it in the bath tub, it stains!).
In other news, I've been accepted into theater, and will be performing in several plays this year. I'm a bit nervous because I haven't been in very many plays during my life, and the last one i was in (7th grade) didn't exactly go fantastically...
But anyways, I'm back, and I'll be changing a few tactics of how I do things around here. I won't go into specifics, but if you want to know so badly, feel free to ask.
As always: Stay weird!
Hi, Weirdos! This is mostly going to be a catching-up post.
For those of you who don't know, I've been looking into potential Literary Agents. It's waaay early, I know, but I like to be prepared. SO I went to Predators and Editors and looked through the categories. A few caught my eye, and I checked out their websites and bla bla bla, but nothing really stood out to me.
Hello again, my Weirdos!
Guess what? IT'S MY BIRTHDAY! That's right, and as I'm sure you're just DYING for another Chatterbox edition of A Day In the Life, I figured, what better way to celebrate than to tell you about the incredibly stupid things I've managed to accomplish? And thus, here I am, about to reveal what a complete idiot I am to the entirety of the internet.

So, to help eradicate, or at least alleviate, this horrible disease, I have put together a lovely post filled with pictures, links, and videos that are sure to have you laughing in no time at all!
